We don’t often think of food as medicine, but actually, there are certain foods if eaten at certain times that can enhance our health in particular ways. Naturopaths have been using these techniques for hundreds of years, and I would like to share an important one with you today.
Women’s reproductive hormones need to be pretty perfectly balanced for the menstrual cycle and ovulation to take place as it should. What I have noticed is that when women become stressed, it’s their reproductive hormones that are the first thing to go haywire.
When women go to the doctors with ‘hormonal problems’ they are often given the contraceptive pill or HRT. I want to show you that there are simple, alternative ways to help to regulate and support the menstrual cycle that you can do straight away yourself.
The technique I’m going to share with you is called seed rotation. This technique can boost oestrogen levels in the first half of the cycle and progesterone in the second part.
This technique can be used by anyone who is experiencing irregular periods, heavy flow and or PMS.
Seed Rotation: Which seeds should be used in what part of the cycle?
Based on a 30 day cycle where your first day of proper bleeding is classified as day 1.
From day 1 to day 15 of your cycle, we need more oestrogen in to build up the endometrium (uterine lining). This is called the follicular phase. Seeds such as flaxseed and pumpkin seeds are used. Take one tablespoon of each seed per day. This can naturally increase oestrogen levels.
From day 15 to day 30 (also known as the luteal phase), the corpus luteum begins to release progesterone. This sex hormone will help thicken the uterine lining and prepare it for implantation.
The high content of zinc in sesame seeds and vitamin E in sunflower seeds, have been shown to stimulate progesterone production. By adding one tablespoon of sesame seeds and one tablespoon of sunflower seeds per day in the luteal phase, you can normally support the body to produce more progesterone, a sex hormone of which many women experience low levels.
I also recommend you soak your seeds over night so that they are more easily digestible/absorbable.
Drop me a line and let me know what sort of changes you notice whilst doing the seed rotation.
